"In sharing their insights gained from the long application
of Buddhism and Western psychology, Nigel Wellings and Elizabeth
McCormick have produced a rich and moving work that reflects an
unflinching honesty about themselves and a deep commitment to the
welfare of others."
Stephen Batchelor, author "Buddhism without
beliefs" and "Living with the Devil"
"The ancient teachings of Buddhism unfold a philosophy
and psychology which for over two and a half thousand years have
helped practitioners achieve freedom from suffering. It offers an
ethical and uniquely personal approach to mental health, wellbeing
and generosity of heart. In this book the authors provide a warmhearted
and insightful synthesis of Buddhist understanding within the Western
paradigm of psychotherapy. They offer this with humility and clarity.
Their articulation of an approach that spans the personal and spiritual
pushes the boundaries of psychotherapy beyond the basic fragmentation
of the Western psyche towards the healing of dislocation and disconnection
from our deepest spiritual roots."
