Wisdom Therapy: Theory, Research, and Practice

Sunday August 21st with Shani Robins, Ph.D.

Wisdom Therapy has been empirically established as a comprehensive and effective clinical program that integrates traditional clinical theory and practice, such as Cognitive Therapy, with Wisdom and Transpersonal constructs such as humility and awe and techniques such as meditation. In additional to focusing on life-span development, Wisdom Therapy addresses the cognitive, behavioral, physiological, and social components that tend to give rise to anger and anxiety at work, at home, and in relationships.

The goals of this one day workshop are to:

  1. Identify the aspects of Wisdom that relate to one's anger and anxiety at work, at home, and in relationships.

  2. Learn to develop aspects of wisdom, such as humility, which serves to both improve life-satisfaction as well as reduce anger, anxiety, and depression.

  3. Learn to develop Cognitive-Behavioral techniques and practices for reducing anger, anxiety, and depression.

  4. Review some of the research that empirically establishes Wisdom Therapy's effectiveness.

  5. Learn Wisdom Therapy techniques that students, interns, and psychologists can incorporate into their developing practice.

The instructor, Shani Robins, PhD, is a licensed Psychologist in the U.S., and the author of numerous scientific journal articles, book chapters, and psychological conference papers where he has given presentations on these topics worldwide.

He is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in California, U.S. (www.itp.edu), is President of the Wisdom Therapy Institute (www.wisdomtherapy.com), an Instructor in the Stanford University Medical School's Health Improvement Program (http://hip.stanford.edu/), and a member of Integrated Healing Arts.
